The Pharmaceuticals giant, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, has announced that the US Food and Drug Administration will require the manufacturer to produce a similar drug to help prevent cancer.
The company said the product, called Premarin Vaginal Cream, will be produced in a single application, to prevent the development of cancer in women who are at risk.
The FDA has already ordered Pfizer to pay $1.7 million to settle allegations that it marketed and sold conjugated estrogens for cosmetic purposes in violation of the Women’s Health Act. The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the FDA’s decision.
Pfizer said it would appeal the FDA’s decision to the US District Court in New York, where it will take the case to the US Court of Appeals for the Supreme Court.
Pfizer has been accused of selling Premarin Vaginal Cream under the trade name Premarin Vaginal, which contains estrogens and is derived from the urine of pregnant women.
The product is also marketed under the brand name Premarin.
Pfizer said it has no comment.
